A lot has been written over the past few years about the promise of cloud computing to help government lower IT costs.
I’ve had first-hand experience with this trend, working at Google with many federal, state and local government agencies to move their email and collaboration services to the cloud with Google Apps. However, much of the cloud progress to date has just scratched the surface of efficiency and cost savings.
Beyond email, web hosting and storage, I see a real opportunity to build and deploy deep industry cloud and mobile applications specific to the needs of the Public Sector. While the cloud offers tantalizing opportunities to lower costs and get agencies out of the expensive and time-consuming business of managing infrastructure, few cloud applications have been designed specifically to address the business needs of the Public Sector. State and local government agencies will benefit from purpose-built cloud and mobile applications that manage the full lifecycle of human services casework, streamline time-intensive permit applications, and more.
I joined Vlocity earlier this year to help make the promise of cloud computing a reality for government agencies. Developing on the proven Salesforce1 Platform enables Vlocity to take advantage of a secure, scalable infrastructure and lets us deliver our public sector cloud apps to market quickly.
Apps designed around the requirements of government customers reduce the need for customization, shorten deployment cycles and lower the total cost of ownership of these solutions. What’s more, agencies benefit from a regular stream of new features, so they can be confident their systems are always up to date. And the predictable subscription costs of cloud apps make them easier to budget for than the lumpy license and upgrade costs associated with traditional on-premise software.
At Vlocity, we’re excited to be building modern and useful, industry-specific applications for government customers that make the promise of the cloud more of a reality. I’ll be sharing more details about our products and product development philosophy in future posts. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more please email us firstname.lastname@example.org.
